Dough Nuts! Play Variants
Looking for some extra ways to mix things up? Take a look at the variants below, or make up your own!
Easy, Friendly Variant
Appropriate for beginners, and those that don't like to have the kids explode.
- The Doughnut Draw pile gets reshuffled when it's depleted.
- Remove the "In It With The Evil Mad Scientist" card from the equipment deck.
Challenging Variant
Finding it too easy to save the kids in your playgroup? Try this one out for size!
- Start with one fewer clock
- The Doughnut deck and Equipment deck do not get reshuffled when depleted (the Action deck still does, per normal)
- No players are allowed to count the doughnuts in the common pile or the doughnuts discard pile.
Super-Challenging Variant
Still too easy to save the kids? (What are you people? Some kind of crazy baking superheroes?) Do all the same as the Challenging Variant and:
- Remove the "In It With The Evil Mad Scientist", "Secondhand Doughnuts" and "Oli-Cook Off!" equipment cards.
5 players
The game was really playtested extensively for 2-4 players. However, you can squeeze an extra person in with this variant.
- You are only allowed to hold 2 equipment cards in your hand, instead of the normal 3. The Equipment Shed still bumps this to 4, however.
- Play with all the clocks, as per a 4-player game.
- The goal is increased from 100 doughnuts to save the kids to 115 doughnuts to save them. The Landscaping card still works as printed.
The Evil Mad Scientist Revealed!
Guessing at who's good and who's evil can be kind of annoying. Why not bring it all out into the open with this 4-player variant?
-
Select a player to be the Evil Mad Scientist. That player starts the game with the following cards in play:
- In It With The Evil Mad Scientist
- Coffee Maker
- Milk Machine
- Put the Charity Front into play, controlled by no player (but usable by anyone).
- The cards listed above cannot be sold, stolen or destroyed.
- The Evil Mad Scientist cannot play the Second Hand Doughnuts - if the Evil Mad Scientist draws this card, s/he must immediately discard it and draw a new equipment card. If it is the only remaining equipment card in the deck, the EMS does not redraw and instead gets $100 from the bank.
